Centre Broca Nouvelle Aquitaine | NEUROCAMPUS | BORDEAUX (33)

Construction of a research center on Segalen University in Bordeaux. The building is linked to existing facilities via two new footbridges. The research center organises in a compact building and around a main atrium, many different types of laboratories: iso 6,7 biochemistry, pysicsn molecular biology, L1, l2, L3. It also includes offices a conference room, a cafeteria.

An agora for neurosciences

 

This 13 000m² research center connects two existing buildings on the Carreire site in Bordeaux with two walkways to form a cluster of experimental high-tech facilities providing for unique research on nervous system and diseases.

 

The characteristic form of the new building results from the urban environment and a dense but flexible internal organization. The program fits into a very compact volume, to limit interference with the environment and reduce air-conditioning and energy needs.

 

Each level is specific and was initially designed from a rectangular shape that was shifted differently on each level to react with its surrounding, offering either open views or enhanced proximity with existing buildings. Wooden terraces, open onto the working spaces on the periphery and fit into the folds the facades. The ground floor rotates too and opens street level spaces between the three buildings, making for large comfortable entries.

 

A large atrium completes the plan and brings natural light to every level of the building. There, a large staircase links all floors and becomes a social and exchange space that favor research and innovation.
